DesignerElle of Lipped Media answers 3 questions
DesignerElle had her blog network up and running before some of you even realized they existed.
Lipped Media has been up and running for over a year.
Obviously she is doing something right.
1. What has been your biggest surprise in running a blog network?
I actually made friends. I found wonderful people who are really so kind, generous, and extremely talented.A worse kind of surprise is how difficult it is. One might originally think that expanding to more blogs will make each blog bigger and gather more attention. But instead, the attention has to be there to GIVE to the blog network. It’s challenging, and I question the fact that I’m doing it, but I still love it and love the idea. 2. What do you think is going to be your company’s biggest obstacle for the next six months and how are you preparing for it?
I want to both grow, but be able to handle the growth in time and finances. The finances sure are building, but time might always be an issue. Then there’s the constant obstacle of fighting the “big guys.”I’m prepared to sacrifice a little, out of pocket, in order to be making a lot more money, and enjoying a lot more sucess, by 2007. 3. This is a new field, blog networks. What advice would you give someone thinking of starting a blog network?
It’s a piece of advice that I heard elsewhere, but have come to completely agree with. Start with one blog only, and build that to extreme popularity and earnings, then consider carefully how to proceed with starting a blog network. And if you already have a blog network, you’ll feel like you have to keep expanding, because now you’re not competing with blogs, no, no; you’re competing in something a little larger than that; the networks. It’s harsh in the world wide web, just as anywhere else.In other words, don’t let your eyes get bigger than your stomach. Take it slowly, and enjoy the little things.
