Haterati (Or The Importance Of Andy Hagans To This Blog)
As I was perusing blogs yesterday (o.k. perusing is so not me) looking at blogs yesterday, I can across Scobles comments against the attacks on Dave Winer.
Now since my beat before I started this blog was short skirts and cool songs I had no idea who Dave Winer was.
Still don’t.
But there is one thing I do know about. And that’s the importance of enemies.
You’re nobody till somebody hates you.
What new readers don’t know (most of you) is that this blog was built on enemies.
Well actually just one.
I visited BlogBizMedia and was horrified at what I saw. So I built this blog to talk about it. (I still blame Andy for every mistake I make!)
Now creating enemies is a strategy that goes way back.
Carlos Castaneda (in between drug hallucinations) in his epic tales of Don Juan wrote about it.
Despite the fact that Tupac and Biggie were friends didn’t stop them from using hate to create loyalty among the faithful.
Walmart vs. The Rest Of Civilization
All are examples of creating a rivalry to sell product.
Because people don’t just want to root for.
They want to root against.
When the Blog Herald makes cracks at 9rules its just Coke vs. Pepsi in the blogosphere. Nothing for Barry Chimes (I mean Bell!) and others to get worked up about.
I’ve been parodied, attacked, and made to fix my advertising page.
I’ve been defended and left to bleed.
But getting upset about seems a bit hypocritical.
We’re all just hustling page views.
Andy Hagans taught me that.

just like gawker vs weblogsinc so is 9rules vs BlogMedia its the same song and dance all over again. With one high profile blogger Flava Fav exiting from 9rules and heading out to BlogMedia’s warmer pastures.
That pretty well sums it up IMO. Chartreuse vs Burgundy. That’s the next big brawl.

That Burgundy guy is a moron! 🙂

Ho ho.
But you missed the point of my post. I wasn’t getting worked up about people getting worked up over each other.
I was getting worked up because The Blog Herald seems like it’s wasting a huge opportunity simply by trying to get people worked up over each other. But that’s my opinion, in case anyone wants to get worked up over that.
And anyway, what’s blogging if you can’t get worked up over something once in a while.
Hee.

That parody was done out of love. Wait till you see the next one, though. 🙂

Barry,
I always miss the point and just fill my head with my own conclusions. Your defense has been noted by management.
If the BH crew want to turn it into an attack platform, it’s their right.
I think you are looking for a serious piece of journalistic integrity. I also think that died when Geraldo got his first gig.
BTW, I misspelled your name on purpose. It was a thinly veiled reference to your post. Funny Stuff. Don’t hate me!

How could I possibly hate you? ;o)) I intentionally misspell names all the time. I’ve found that it’s the quickest way to get a reaction out of anyone.
Online and offline.
But shhh…. don’t tell anyone I do that, or it won’t work any more.

man chartreuse I really hate you. I look forward to a long, drawn out feud where you regularly link me up and help my name recognition 🙂

Chartruese hates and Andy and vice versa. Now there’s a headline I really had noticed missing lately. Hey, Andy where the heck have you been?

Besides a few conferences (SES, SXSW), I been busy chasing that dollar bill. Which usually means behind-the-scenes, non-sexy details. Not blogworthy 🙂

Glad you pop in Andy. In case you didn’t realize it, you are important to this blog! 🙂 I look forward to a long drawn out feud as well. Just try to blog more often!

Hmm.. I’m wondering if you are a genius to stick with the “hate” theme. Maybe that’s why you linked to the pages that “paraodied” and “attacked” you, but no love for the links that “defended you” Just an observation! 🙂
